The nails are an extension of the skin. They are made of keratin, the same fibrous protein resistant and found in the horns and claws. Your diet can have a big influence on your nails. Malnutrition, drastic diets and eating disorders affect the nails, as well as hormonal imbalance and aging. With age, the nails retain less moisture, making them thinner and more fragile.

A manicure is a cosmetic beauty treatment for fingernails and hands or feet (pedicure). Treatment can be performed only for the hands or just for your nails. The most common treatment is to grind, shape and polish nails. Other treatments are specific to your hands and feet. Hand, soaking in a softening substance and application of a lotion is also common. A similar treatment is available for the feet and is called pedicure.

A manicure almost always involves filing, polishing, and nail varnish. It may also include the application of artificial nails, acrylics or artificial nail gels. Some manicures can include painting pictures or designs on the nails or applying small decals or imitation jewels.

Usually, technicians manicures follow regulations defined hygiene. Since skin is manipulated and sometimes cut, there is some risk of spreading bacteria or infection when tools are used on many people and, therefore, sanitation is a serious issue.

French:

Hot oil:
a hot oil manicure is a special type that cleans and softens the cuticles with oil. Effective for dry skin and brittle nails, making them soft and supple. The types of oils that can be used are mineral oil, olive oil or commercial preparation.

Residues of acrylic resins can cause redness, swelling and pain in the nail bed. In severe allergic reactions, the nail may separate from the bed. If the root of the nail is damaged, regrowth can be altered permanently. Nail glue is poisonous if swallowed and most varnishes and to dissolve them contain toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde and acetone, respectively.
Fungal infections can also occur when moisture is trapped between the false and natural nails. A recent study showed that nurses with artificial nails had two times more bacteria on their hands than those with natural nails.
